A 2026 monospaced revival by Dries Wiewauters for Font Club Belgica, built across five widths and six weights, reviving W.A. Dwiggins' idea of 50% and 150% glyphs to refine fixed-pitch spacing.
About
Crimp takes the functional rigidity of typewriter and OCR typefaces as its starting point, then applies angled stubbed terminals and half-width space variants drawn from Dwiggins' underexplored research into variable-width monospaced characters. Five width families span from X Condensed to X Expanded, each offering six weights with matching italics, alongside two variable fonts covering the full width axis. Extended Latin, Cyrillic and Greek script support makes the collection suited to engineering, aerospace and outdoor signage applications.
Classification
Crimp is rooted in the monospaced typewriter tradition, drawing on fixed-pitch precedents such as Courier and OCR-A, but extends the category with five width variants and angled stubby terminals derived from engineering and technical lettering conventions.
