A series of four typefaces united by their backward slant, spanning sans serif, script and blackletter styles, with forms drawn using a ruler and set square and a minimum of optical correction.
About
Begun in 2022 as a response to personal and cultural disorientation, Backslanted treats the reverse incline not as a novelty but as a structural principle shared across radically different type styles. The series currently comprises two sans serifs (Regular and Super), a Script and a Blackletter, each maintaining the characteristic backward lean while adapting it to its respective genre. Coverage extends to Extended Latin, Extended Georgian and Cyrillic, with OpenType features including contextual alternates, ligatures and ten stylistic sets.
Classification
An unconventional series of typefaces unified by their backward slant, encompassing sans, script and blackletter styles. The defining structural trait – forms drawn with a ruler and set square at a reverse angle – places this firmly in display territory despite the stylistic variety across the family.
