Staatliches specimen from Type Brut

A free all-caps display face by Brian LaRossa and Erica Carras, drawn from Herbert Bayer's lettering on the 1923 Bauhaus exhibition catalogue cover.

About

Designed in response to Bayer's title lettering, Staatliches adopts strikingly wide, even proportions that give it an immediately legible and singular character at large sizes. The family includes full capitals, numerals, punctuation, symbols, alternate widths and discretionary ligatures, as well as common Latin accents. It is available free from Type Brut and via Google Fonts.

Classification

An all-caps geometric display face inspired by Bauhaus lettering, with unconventional extended proportions derived from Herbert Bayer's 1923 exhibition catalogue. Its extreme width and clean geometry place it firmly in the display category.
