Tré Seals of Vocal Type built The Neue Black around signage from the Chicago Freedom Movement, the 1966 campaign led by Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. It carries a heavy, ink-trapped structure and a generous set of ligatures and alternates, released through the League as an open-source partnership with Vocal Type.
