Insouciant began as VF Script, a custom design for Vanity Fair based on lettering from a 1920s French automobile poster. Montalbano revived and rebuilt it over more than twelve years to solve the connection problems that plagued letters like r, s, v, w, z and o. Ten weights from Extra Thin to Heavy are joined by alternate forms of b, f and o, reached through OpenType stylistic sets.
