Ghost Text SemiMono is one of six members in Sharp Type's Ghost Superfamily, which spans display, text and coding functions across a single variable designspace. Its character rhythm is more uniform than a proportional sans but stops short of true monospace, making it suited to interfaces and publications where running text and technical content share the page. The design roots back to Roman inscriptional writing and mid-century humanist classics, given a sharp contemporary edge by Lucas Sharp and his team.
Classification
Humanist sans-serif with a semi-monospaced glyph rhythm. Sits between the proportional Ghost Text and the fully fixed-width Ghost Text Mono. The Ghost superfamily traces its roots to Roman inscriptional lettering, Johnston's 1916 Underground type, and Optima (1958). The SemiMono variant is calibrated for screen reading where a uniform character cadence aids scanning without the rigidity of full monospace.
