On a mission to create the world’s biggest index of typefaces from the world’s best type foundries

sans-serifmodular sans
Gik specimen from Serebryakov Type Foundry

A modular sans-serif family by Denis Serebryakov, awarded a Special Mention at the 13th Granshan competition, that fuses constructivist structure with italic-derived plastic tension across three styles and a variable axis.

About

Released in 2022, Gik draws its compositional logic from 20th-century avant-garde movements — constructivism, brutalism and De Stijl — while incorporating structural techniques characteristic of italic typefaces. The family spans three named styles (Fine, Medium, Brutal) plus a variable font, and covers Latin and Cyrillic scripts with OpenType features including stylistic alternates, case-sensitive forms and both oldstyle and lining figures. The result is a typeface with a distinct conceptual position rather than a generic historical reference.

Classification

A modular sans-serif drawing on constructivist and De Stijl geometric principles, with structural techniques borrowed from italic construction. The three-style family (Fine, Medium, Brutal) occupies a distinct space between geometric and experimental display type.
