Designed by Luis Sevilio as part of the UBA Type Design Master's programme, Sonetto pairs a Regular for prose with an Italico for verse, the latter informed by early Italian cursive manuscripts that show connected letterforms. Rather than reviving a single historical source, it reconstructs a broader Renaissance concept of the italic. OpenType features include small capitals, fractions, superscript and subscript figures.
Classification
A revival rooted in Griffo's italics and early 16th-century Italian manuscripts, Sonetto sits within the Renaissance humanist tradition. The italic cuts show cursive connections between letters, placing it firmly in the chancery/humanist serif category.
