RL Grot specimen from Radluka

A 2025 grotesque in nine weights plus variable font, drawing on Franklin Gothic and East European vernacular type with compact proportions and pushed contrast.

About

Inspired by Morris Fuller Benton's Franklin Gothic and Eleisha Pechey's Grotesk No. 9, RL Grot introduces its own character through egg-shaped rounds, a simplified 't' base, and a stepping left stem on 'M'. Tight spacing and compact proportions favour headline use in heavier weights, while the lighter cuts open up enough for extended text. The variable font spans the full weight range from Hair to Black.

Classification

A contemporary grotesque drawing on early 20th-century models such as Franklin Gothic and Grotesk No. 9, with compact proportions, pushed contrast and East European vernacular character details that place it firmly within the grotesque tradition.
