A 16-family grotesque collection loosely descended from Franklin Gothic, offering variable slant and contrast axes across three optical sizes, five widths and 351 static fonts with Latin and Cyrillic coverage.
About
Onweer takes Franklin Gothic as a distant starting point and pushes it toward fashion-inflected restraint, with a slant axis reaching ±20 degrees and a contrast axis for more subtle variation. Three optical size grades – Normal, Display and Poster – each span five widths from Compressed to Extended, resulting in 351 static fonts plus a variable font. A stylistic set featuring super closed apertures gives the family a markedly different character from its American gothic forebear.
Classification
Rooted in the Franklin Gothic tradition, Onweer is a grotesque with variable contrast and slant axes, extended widths and optical size subfamilies, taking the American grotesque model in a distinctly contemporary direction with super closed alternates.
