AA Gothic specimen from Radim Pesko

A display companion to A Gothic that inverts the ink trap device, turning corner notches from an optical correction into the typeface's defining mark at headline scale.

About

AA Gothic pairs with Peško's A Gothic as its display counterpart, sharing the same grotesque skeleton but flipping the ink trap logic: rather than removing corner material to assist ink spread at small sizes, the design adds deliberate notches that become its visual signature when set large. The conceit works because it subverts something normally invisible, making a functional device into a point of character. Two weights, Regular and Bold, cover Latin, Cyrillic and Greek across more than sixty languages.

Classification

Display-weight grotesque sans designed as the headline complement to A Gothic. Its defining device is inverted ink traps: rather than removing corner material to aid ink spread at small sizes, the design adds deliberate notched corners that function as a visual signature at large scale. Structurally orthodox grotesque construction otherwise, with the same skeleton as A Gothic.
