A mannerist all-caps Didone display family by Roland Hörmann and Felix Auer, built around geometric ornaments and an elaborate system of connecting ligatures, with two stripped-back companions.
About
AQUUS takes the high-contrast elegance of a classical Didone and subjects it to experimental interventions: geometric elements are embedded in the letterforms and many characters join via discretionary ligatures. AQUUS Linearis exposes the same structures as an outline variant suited to layering over imagery, while AQUUS Simplex removes the ornamental apparatus to leave a sober, unadorned counterpart. All three subfamilies share Regular and Italic cuts.
Classification
An all-caps Didone-derived display face with mannerist tendencies, incorporating geometric ornaments and extensive ligature conjunctions that push it firmly into the display category beyond any text-type classification.
