An all-caps ornamented display family rooted in 19th-century Russian letterforms, revived through Alexander Leo's 1920s letterings and released by ParaType in 2020.
About
Designed by Isabella Chaeva, Titul draws on stylised letterings made in the 1920s by Russian graphic artist Alexander Leo, who in turn referenced books from the first half of the 19th century. The family spans seven structural styles – four ornamented variants plus solid, inline and striped – each with a matching oblique, supplemented by a vignette font and ornamental borders. It suits vintage book covers, theatre posters, packaging and greeting cards.
Classification
A decorative display family with ornamented, inline, striped and solid variants, all caps, rooted in 19th-century Russian typographic tradition and 1920s lettering. Its historical ornamentation and structural variety place it firmly in the display category.
