A connected cursive script drawn by Matthew Carter in 1966 from Charles Snell's 17th-century English roundhand, issued in a three-weight digital family by ParaType in 2013 with Cyrillic additions by Vladimir Yefimov and Isabella Chaeva.
About
Based on Charles Snell's penmanship as recorded in his 1694 treatise 'The Pen-man's Treasury Open'd', the design retains the high contrast and abrupt thin-to-thick transitions characteristic of formal English roundhand. Three weights – Regular, Bold and Black – suit medium-size text and headlines alike, with capitals frequently employed as display initials. The Cyrillic extension broadens its range for packaging, invitations, menus and advertising.
Classification
A formal connected cursive script rooted in 17th-century English roundhand calligraphy, characterised by high contrast with abrupt thin-to-thick transitions and a regular slope – hallmarks of the copperplate script tradition.
