A narrow, contrasted display sans-serif drawn from the catalogue of St. Petersburg's Osip Lehman foundry, with roots in Jacob Erbar's Feder Grotesk.
About
Romanovsky is a newly drawn typeface rather than a direct scan of its historical source, departing from Lehman's original samples in numerous details while retaining their narrow proportions and marked stroke contrast. The character set covers Western and Central European Latin as well as Cyrillic-based languages, and includes around 20 uppercase ligatures for common letter combinations. Designed by Vasily Biryukov, with the Bold weight developed in collaboration with Olexa Volochay.
Classification
A narrow, high-contrast sans-serif designed for display and heading use, rooted in early 20th-century German grotesque tradition via Erbar's Feder Grotesk. Its noticeable stroke contrast and narrow proportions distinguish it from conventional grotesques, placing it firmly in the display category.
