Han Zi specimen from ParaType

A single-weight display face by Aleksandra Egorova in which Latin capitals are redrawn using the stroke logic of traditional Chinese Kaishu script.

About

Released by ParaType in 2008, Han Zi applies the visual vocabulary of Chinese regular script to Latin letterforms, producing a stylistically coherent result rather than a superficial pastiche. The design draws on Kaishu's characteristic stroke structure and proportions, giving the capitals an authentic quality that distinguishes it from generic chinoiserie type. Only a single Regular weight is available, intended for poster and screen use.

Classification

A display typeface built from Latin letterforms styled after traditional Chinese Kaishu (regular script) characters, making it a decorative Latin font with strong Chinese visual references rather than an actual Chinese typeface.
