A straight-stemmed display family inspired by the calligraphic work of East German calligrapher Guenter Gnauck, redesigned and expanded to four styles by ParaType in 2009.
About
Originally developed by Zakhar Yaschin in 2001 as a single style, Guenter deliberately avoids curves in favour of straight stems throughout, translating its calligraphic source into a constructed, angular form. The family was rebuilt and extended to Normal, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic in 2009. It belongs to ParaType's 'in-one-touch' series alongside KvadratZ, and suits poster, packaging and editorial contexts where a decorative, informal character is needed.
Classification
A display typeface constructed from straight stems rather than curves, inspired by calligraphy but translated into a geometric, modular form. Its playful, irregular structure places it firmly in the decorative display category.
