A humanist serif with low contrast and one-sided serifs whose upright romans share the informal character of italics, with stylistic alternates that revert to conventional upright forms.
About
Designed by Natalia Vasilyeva and released by ParaType in 2017, Calendula offers eight styles across four weights from Light to Bold, each with a matching italic. The regular styles are drawn close to upright italics, giving the family a warm, informal tone by default. Switching the stylistic set transforms the face into a conventional text font with traditional upright letterforms.
Classification
Humanist serif with low stroke contrast and one-sided serifs, sitting between traditional upright and informal upright-italic forms. The stylistic alternates shift the feel from friendly and informal to calm and conventional.
