displaydisplay serif
AZ HighWay specimen from ParaType

A single-weight display serif designed at the Az-Zet graphic bureau between 1990 and 1995, drawing on the extreme stroke contrast and wide proportions of Broadway.

About

Designed by Leonid Silkin at ATRI Graphic Bureau Az-Zet, AZ HighWay takes clear inspiration from Morris Fuller Benton's Broadway (ATF, 1928), employing very heavy thick strokes paired with near-hairline thins and wide letterforms. Only a Regular weight is available. The specimen confirms the dramatic contrast typical of the Broadway tradition.

Classification

The specimen shows pronounced stroke contrast with very heavy thick strokes and hairline thins, wide proportions and geometric slab-like serifs, closely related to the Broadway display style. This places it firmly in the high-contrast display serif category.
