A Bitstream version of Bembo with added Cyrillic, rooted in Francesco Griffo's typeface first cut for Aldus Manutius's 1495 edition of Pietro Bembo's 'De Aetna'.
About
The design traces back to Griffo's original letterforms, one of the earliest old-style types in Europe and a forerunner to Garamond. The modern Bembo was revived at Monotype under Stanley Morison in 1929; this Bitstream adaptation extends the family to Cyrillic, with that version developed by Isabella Chaeva and released by ParaType in 2008. Its well-proportioned classical letterforms and high readability make it a reliable choice for book typography across a broad range of subjects.
Classification
A Bitstream adaptation of Bembo, itself rooted in Francesco Griffo's 15th-century old-style letterforms. Follows the humanist old-style tradition established by the original 1495 type, with the Cyrillic extension developed by Isabella Chaeva and released by ParaType in 2008.
