A wide, warm grotesque designed by June Shin, originating from signage work for a 2017 RISD Museum exhibition and drawn from 19th-century etching frontispiece lettering.
About
Rapport grew out of exhibition design for Altered States at RISD Museum in 2017, with June Shin taking direct visual cues from the frontispiece of an 1862 collection of Charles François Daubigny's etchings. The result is a grotesque with conspicuous width and whimsical details that give it a friendly, slightly offbeat character unusual for the genre. Six weights from Thin to Black, each with a matching italic, are supported by small caps, old-style figures, tabular figures and a full suite of ligatures.
Classification
Described explicitly as a grotesque sans serif, with a wide, warm character rooted in 19th-century graphic sources rather than modernist reduction.
