About
Conceived after an encounter with Spanish movie posters by the illustrator Jano, Rótulo revives the thick-and-thin signpainter aesthetic that once defined Spanish graphic and commercial art. The family spans Compressed through Expanded across nine weights from Thin to Fat, each with an oblique, totalling 90 styles plus a variable font. Contrasted sans designs of this kind have largely been displaced by monotone grotesques, and Rótulo makes a deliberate case for their return in headline and display contexts.
