Designed initially for Michael Worthington's Inside Out & Upside Down: Posters from CalArts 1980-2019, Pragmatic Grotesk takes a hyper-rational approach to grotesque form while introducing a warmth that tempers its Swiss rigour. Twelve styles span six weights from Thin to Black, each with a matching italic. Eight stylistic sets provide typographic flexibility for numerals and symbols, allowing varied combinations within a single setting.
Classification
A rational, upright grotesque with a self-described 'hyper-rational' design philosophy and clean, functional forms rooted in the Swiss grotesque tradition, with a Southern Californian character that prevents it from being a straight revival.
