Giparan

lo-ol Type · Noheul Lee

sans-serifsemi-serif humanist
Giparan specimen from lo-ol Type

A neo-humanist semi-serif spanning nine weights and supporting both Latin and Hangeul scripts, named after the Hwarang warriors of the Shilla Dynasty.

About

Giparan blends the open structure of a sans-serif with restrained, selective serifs that surface naturally without disrupting the underlying geometry. Its slightly wide proportions and solid construction reference the character of the young Hwarang knight, whilst a warm humanist touch keeps the forms approachable across all nine weights. A variable font with a weight axis is also available, extending its range of use across both Latin and Hangeul with a total glyph count of 3,898.

Classification

Giparan occupies an unusual position between sans-serif and semi-serif: its underlying structure is unadorned and linear, but selective serifs and humanist details are added at key junctions, giving it a neo-humanist character rather than a full serif classification.
