Designed by Kris Sowersby in 2009, Karbon draws on three modernist references: Renner's Futura for its reductionist concept, Eric Gill's sans for its proportions, and Jan Tschichold's Uhertype as a further touchpoint. Seven weights with italics hold a contemporary restraint that works across both display and text sizes. The Slab Stencil extension applies the same sparse logic to an industrial stencil form, with deliberate breaks running through the letterforms.

Open geometric sans-serif in the modernist tradition; Klim classifies it as "Modern: Lineal/Geometric". The Karbon Slab Stencil sub-family is classified "Modern: Mechanistic/Stencil". Low contrast, geometric construction, open apertures with a spartan, reductive finish.
