MegaMegaTypeType
An incised serif from a type designer who learned stone carving, meant to be cut in marble rather than wood.
About
Jules Durand began Profana in 2019 from the proportions of Albertus, then reshaped it after learning stone carving with Franck Jalleau. Where Wolpe's letters look hacked from wood, Profana is warmer and more calligraphic, made to suit marble. One style, with small caps, oldstyle figures, discretionary ligatures and four stylistic sets of alternate capitals.
Classification
An incised serif: short flared serifs made by the movement of a chisel. It began with the proportions of Berthold Wolpe's Albertus and has moved towards a warmer, more calligraphic form, with nods to ITC's 1970s incises Eras and Fritz Quadrata.
