A heavy display slab in two variants – Plain and Rough – built for poster use, with Rough offering three alternate versions of each glyph to avoid repetition in headlines.
About
Designed by Jérémie Hornus and released in 2016, Thug draws on contemporary design sensibilities rather than 19th-century wood type traditions, despite its considerable visual weight. Thug Rough extends the character set by 155 glyphs, giving each letter three distinct roughed-up versions to prevent identical characters appearing side by side in display settings. The family suits branding, packaging and editorial headline work where impact and textural character are required.
Classification
A heavy display slab with thick strokes and prominent serifs, designed specifically for poster use rather than text setting. Its boldness and rough variant place it firmly in the display slab category.
