A five-weight Latin script from Ahmedabad designer Parimal Parmar, set at an extreme 40-degree slant with stroke contrast that rises from monolinear in the Light to high-contrast in the Bold.
About
Katana combines the refined detail of calligraphy with the energy of large-format graffiti lettering, expressed through a slant roughly twice that of a typical italic. Across its five weights, stroke contrast builds steadily so the heavier cuts resemble broad-pen or brush writing, while the boldest weight veers toward a techno-inflected sign-painting aesthetic. Each style includes lining figures by default, oldstyle figures via OpenType, and around 26 contextual alternates.
Classification
A stylised Latin script with an aggressive 40-degree slant, drawing on both calligraphic and graffiti lettering traditions. Stroke contrast increases progressively from a monolinear Light to a high-contrast Bold, placing it firmly in the brush/calligraphic script category.
