Plinc Bubble Gum specimen from House Industries

A digitisation of Dave West's late-1960s Photo-Lettering design, reviving inflated comic-strip letterforms with a companion drop shadow layer for a dimensional effect.

About

Originally created for Photo-Lettering, Inc. between the late 1960s and early 1970s, Bubble Gum takes the rounded letterforms of classic comic strip word balloons and pushes them into heavily padded, dimensional territory. The family ships as two separate fonts – Regular and Drop Shadow – which are layered to produce the shaded effect, requiring manual assembly per the included PDF guide. Jess Collins completed the digitisation in 2011 for House Industries' Photo-Lettering collection.

Classification

A multi-dimensional, puffed display face derived from comic strip lettering traditions. Its rounded, inflated letterforms and layered drop shadow system place it firmly in the display category with no meaningful text application.
