GT Mechanik
Grilli Type · Shiva Nallaperumal, Reto Moser, Noël Leu · 2026

A family built outward from a monospace core, translating the constraints of electromechanical typesetting into a three-subfamily system of increasing proportional freedom.
About
Designed by Shiva Nallaperumal, Reto Moser and Noël Leu, GT Mechanik takes the idiosyncrasies of mechanical text systems as its governing logic rather than its starting point. The family runs across three subfamilies — Mono, Semi and Poly — each applying the same design principles at different degrees of spacing flexibility, from fixed-width to near-proportional. Seven weights from Thin to Black with obliques across all three subfamilies give 42 styles in total, with broad Latin extended language coverage.
Classification
GT Mechanik is built around a monospace style rooted in electromechanical typesetting systems, with idiosyncratic features of mechanical text composition serving as design principles across the family's three subfamilies.
