A serif rooted in Ronaldson Clarendon, Alexander Kay's 1884 American old style, reinterpreted with added italics and a monospaced variant rather than reproduced faithfully.
About
Drawing on Ronaldson Old Style's distinctive beak-like serifs and squared-up letter shoulders, DGM Saffron adapts rather than revives its source material, with numerous elements redesigned by Giulia Boggio. The family includes Regular, Italic, Mono-Regular and Mono-Italic cuts, with kerning and spacing by Igino Marini. At 248 glyphs, it is a compact family suited to editorial and literary contexts.
Classification
Inspired by Ronaldson Clarendon, itself a revival of Alexander Kay's Ronaldson Old Style (1884), DGM Saffron belongs to the Clarendon/slab-inflected old style tradition, characterised by its beak-like serifs and squared letter shoulders, with added italics and a monospaced variant.
