About
Blok draws on research into the heavy grotesques used in European and Soviet avant-garde printing from ca. 1887 onwards. Rather than reviving any single original, it distils the spirit of metal types from multiple foundries, including designs that later informed Olivetti advertising through the 1950s and 60s. Named after the Warsaw Blok group and magazine from ca. 1924, it suits poster-scale and headline typography.
Classification
A stout extrabold display sans-serif modelled on the Fette Grotesk typefaces that circulated in European and Soviet avant-garde printing from the late 19th century onwards. The extreme weight and compressed character place it squarely in the display category.
