Asgaard specimen from Florian Runge

A Danish-influenced functional sans with micro-serifs and ink traps, designed for legibility in UI and wayfinding.

About

Asgaard was created during the 2012 tipoRenesansa workshop in Slovenia, built on research into a distinctive strand of Danish lettering and type design from the 20th century. Its large x-height, open counters, slightly rounded corners and visible ink traps give it reliable legibility at small sizes. It performs especially well in wayfinding systems, information design and UI contexts, and includes an alternate Ø with horizontal bar referencing old Danish enamel signage.

Classification

A sans-serif with micro-serifs and ink traps, shaped by research into Danish graphic lettering traditions. The combination of square terminals, slightly rounded corners and a large x-height places it in the functional humanist sans territory rather than the pure grotesque or slab categories.
