A cool, restrained humanist sans for wayfinding, exhibitions and publications, in nine weights with italics.
About
Szymon Sznajder began Shelf as his 2013 graduation project and finished it in 2020; the name comes from ice shelves. It is a calm, rational humanist sans built for information systems, with nine weights from Thin to Heavy, matching italics and over 1,500 glyphs per style. It sets long text as comfortably as signs and exhibition captions, and has a rounded sibling, Shelf Round.
Classification
Described explicitly as a humanist sans-serif with a cool, rational character; letter construction and proportions align with the humanist tradition, prioritising legibility and clear hierarchy over geometric abstraction.
