Newcastle is built around a modular layering system: Basic styles provide the foundation, Combined styles add shadow, and Extras introduce dust and wear via underscore and dash characters. Discretionary ligatures turn common short words into decorative catchwords, while Contextual Alternates automatically substitute a second glyph variant to break up repetition. Stylistic Set 01 flips catchwords to a vertical orientation.
