Built on the bitmap grid aesthetic that defined Licko's early work at Emigre, Lo-Res Outlined extends the Lo-Res family with three distinct subfamilies: Outlined, Subtracted and Woven. Each subfamily explores a different structural treatment of the pixel letterform, from thin outline strokes measured in fractions to interlaced woven patterns. The result is an unusually granular system for controlling optical weight and texture through the choice of variant rather than a conventional weight axis.
Classification
A display typeface derived from low-resolution bitmap aesthetics, with stroke outlines, subtractive cutouts and woven patterns applied to pixel-grid letterforms. The vast range of inline, outlined and textural variants firmly places it in the display category.
