Calligrapher Don Sterrenburg's first digital typeface: a tall, narrow roman with a true italic and a ribbon-like inline.
About
Summa was digitised over several years from Sterrenburg's pen and ink drawings on board, with proofs sent back and forth until he was satisfied. The roman sets narrow with a raised x-height and cupped serifs, and the italic is drawn, not slanted. Summa Inline is a different animal: its inline twists and drops out where strokes cross, and it comes with swash capitals.
Classification
A narrow roman with bracketed, cupped serifs and a high x-height, a true calligraphic italic and an Inline style that reworks the structure into twisting ribbon-like strokes with swash capitals.
