François Robert's 1968 marquee alphabet, once sold as rub-down 'Chicago', redrawn with Delve Withrington in three weights and two layering styles.
About
Robert drew the alphabet in Milan after the lights of Las Vegas, and it appeared on magazine covers and record sleeves through the 1970s before being left behind by digital type. Renamed after Émile Baudot of Baudot code, the new family has Light, Regular and Bold plus Pop Open and Pop Fill for colour layering. Over 900 glyphs cover 329 languages, and it was Steven Heller's Font of the Month in July 2023.
Classification
A grid-built headline alphabet first issued as dry transfer lettering in the early 1970s, redrawn from scratch. Mostly modular, with a second offset grid used in places to close gaps between strokes.
