A monoline neo-grotesque family in three subfamilies, each distinguished by increasingly pronounced ink squashes that simulate the hesitation marks left by a pen pausing on paper.
About
The design takes the standardised lettering systems of industrial technical drawing as its starting point, building a monoline skeleton from neo-grotesque models and introducing a variable system of ink squashes at pause points. Three subfamilies, Pen, Pen X and Pen XX, graduate from restrained to more pronounced squashes, with no two marks identical in size or shape. A Twinline variant duplicates the stroke path, SVG styles strip the skeleton back for plotting and engraving use, and stylistic sets shift the geometry towards letterforms associated with Herbert Bayer, Paul Renner and André Gürtler.
Classification
Monoline neo-grotesque skeleton without stroke contrast or optical correction, drawing from round-pen lettering traditions and plotter typography. The defining characteristic is a system of variable ink squashes at stroke terminals, referencing the physical behaviour of a pen pausing on paper.
