Paul Barnes's revival of Miller & Richard's 1880s News Bill display series, expanded with a roman drawn for Yayoi Kusama's Factory International exhibition.
About
Originally an italic-only Victorian display face from the 1880s, Punch gains a roman companion designed by Barnes specifically for Fraser Muggeridge studio's work on Yayoi Kusama: You, Me and the Balloons in Manchester. The typeface is part of Commercial Type's Classics programme, which rescues historical letterforms for contemporary use. Broad Latin language support makes it practical for international editorial and cultural institution work.
Classification
A revival of Miller & Richard's 1880s News Bill series, a Victorian display face with an added roman companion. Its large-scale, expressive letterforms and historical provenance place it firmly in the display serif category.
