A systematic reworking of the Doric grotesque tradition by Paul Barnes and Tim Ripper, offering six widths from X Condensed to Extended with full variable font support.
About
Developed partly from work for the Daily Telegraph, New Doric imagines the same modernising process that produced Neue Haas Grotesk from Akzidenz Grotesk, applied instead to the Caslon Doric lineage. The result is cleaner and tighter than its historical sources, with a coherent weight and width range suited to variable font technology. Six subfamilies – from X Condensed to Extended – are available as static families or as two variable fonts covering upright and italic axes.
Classification
A modernised grotesque rooted in the Doric/Caslon Doric tradition, conceived as a cleaner and more systematised successor to the historical Doric form – analogous to the evolutionary relationship between Akzidenz Grotesk and Neue Haas Grotesk.
