A display serif with wood type roots, drawing on Windsor and Richmond Old Style to produce a family whose serifs evolve from rounded and delicate in the Light to square and sturdy in the Black.
About
Grenette takes its cues from two wood type specimens – Windsor (1915) and Richmond Old Style (1966) – blending their influences into a family of ten styles spanning Light to Black, each with an italic. A key characteristic is the deliberate contrast between imposing serifs and serif-less interiors on forms such as the 'n', 'h' and 'v', creating an intentional asymmetry that gives the design its personality. The uppercase carries particular expressiveness, with letters such as 'U', 'B', 'R' and 'D' bulging at their vertical stress points, lending texture to all-caps settings.
Classification
A display serif with wood type influences, drawing from Windsor (1915) and Richmond Old Style (1966). The intentional asymmetry between imposing serifs and serif-less interiors on certain letterforms places it firmly in the display category with an expressive, idiosyncratic character.
