Erik Spiekermann's take on Akzidenz-Grotesk, drawn with Ralph du Carrois and Anja Meiners, with a true italic, an oblique, small caps and condensed widths.
About
FF Real started with a medium cut of Berthold's Akzidenz-Grotesk in wood type at Spiekermann's p98a workshop, first drawn for his biography and then grown into a full family. It is warmer and easier to read than the old German grotesques, with true small caps, plenty of figure sets and both a real italic and an oblique. Head and Text versions differ in their dots, square or round, and condensed widths arrived in 2020; it is sold through MyFonts.
Classification
A German grotesque in the Akzidenz-Grotesk tradition, warmed up and made more legible. Head and Text versions differ in punctuation (square dots in Head, round in Text), with a true italic, a separate oblique and condensed widths added later.
