A compact all-caps display typeface originally drawn for Jazz FM in 2012 and refined for The New York Times Magazine in 2015, released as version 2.0 in 2021 with the assistance of Diana Ovezea.
About
Timmons NY began as a bespoke design for a Jazz FM booklet before being reworked for the 2015 'New York' special issue of The New York Times Magazine. Its uppercase-only character set includes extensive alternates for A, G, I, K, N, R, V and W, with four variants of the letter M alone. The 2.0 release formalised the typeface for retail distribution, retaining the punchy editorial energy that defined its editorial origins.
Classification
An all-caps display typeface with compact proportions, extensive alternate characters and a strong editorial character. Its origins in print design for magazines and a jazz radio station place it firmly in the display category.
