Bw JS1 specimen from Branding with Type

A modular display type system of 19 styles built from open geometric outlines, inspired by the sketches of Dutch designer Jurriaan Schrofer and originally designed for the JAM hotel in Brussels.

About

The system offers five weights and fourteen contour variants that can be combined and layered, with each style containing 116 glyphs. Three spacing widths are accessible via stylistic sets, and all outlines are open to permit stencil applications. The design traces back to original drawings by Schrofer and was first developed in 2016 as part of a hotel identity by Julien Van Havere of DesignPractice.

Classification

A modular display system built entirely from open geometric outlines, designed for stencil usage and combinatorial layering. Its construction-based logic and numerical naming system place it firmly in the modular/experimental display category.
