Attendorn
Azuliq Type · Markus Abts · 2024

A variable display typeface from Azuliq Type that morphs across weight and width axes, combining a humanistic roman structure with the drama of American wood type and 1990s Italian fashion typography.
About
Designed by Markus Abts and released in December 2024, Attendorn spans from a slim light to a bold wide through a continuous variable axis, with four static instances also available. The humanistic foundation is overlaid with expressive stylistic influences drawn from gloomy electronic music and Caravaggio's chiaroscuro, producing letterforms that shift character dramatically across the range. A rich ligature set and stylistic alternates extend its typographic flexibility across 410 glyphs covering 32 languages.
Classification
A variable display typeface built on a humanistic roman skeleton but stretched across a wide axis of weight and width, drawing on American wood type and high-fashion Italian typography of the 1990s. Its morphing quality and dramatic contrast place it firmly in the display category rather than text.
