US Army interlocking stencil plates of the 1940s to 1960s, made by General Stencil of New York.
About
General Stencil Inc. made these one inch interlocking plates in New York, mostly for the US Army, and similar letters turn up as early as about 1920. Interlocking kits sit inside the NATO stock number system, and the one inch kit has carried 7520-00-298-7043 since 1963 even as the letters changed. For the design the army uses now, see Vtg Stencil US No. 72.
