A late-19th-century German brass stencil that drops its serifs on some letters, redrawn from the original.
About
The stencil turned up during a barn clear-out on a farm in the Altmark, next to grain sacks marked with it. Ownership records put it before 1900, which makes it early evidence of what we would now call a semi-serif. Missing letters were filled in using Vtg Stencil Germany No.1 as the base.
Classification
Serifs appear on some letters and vanish on others, exactly as the brass original was punched. Display, because the mix is a marking device rather than a text serif.
