A theatrical yet scholarly Hebrew serif developed over three years, optimised for long-form text and screen display across five weights.
About
Designed by Avraham Cornfeld and released in 2011, Synopsis draws on classical Hebrew letter traditions, combining ambitious serifs with sensuous curves and stable letterforms. The stems are intentionally bolder than the letter tops, and the characters sit slightly taller than the x-height, giving the typeface presence alongside Latin serifs such as Scala and Georgia. Extensive readability testing over more than three years shaped it into a reliable book typeface, legible down to 4pt.
Classification
A Hebrew serif typeface designed in the classical tradition, with prominent serifs, sensuous curves and stems bolder than the letter tops – characteristics that align it with the Latin transitional or classical serif genre, adapted for Hebrew script.
