A bilingual Hebrew-Latin monoline serif in five weights, rooted in the formal structure of Frankruehl and constructed on a pixel grid to uncover new forms within the Hebrew letter.
About
Designed by Avraham Cornfeld and first released in 2011, Mekomi draws its letterforms from the classical Hebrew typeface Frankruehl while applying a reduced stroke contrast that gives it an open, flowing quality suited to screen and print alike. Construction over a pixel grid using a freeform technique revealed new possibilities in Hebrew letter shapes. Version 2.0 (2018) expanded the family to full bilingual coverage with an extensive OpenType feature set including swashes, small caps, ligatures and fractions.
Classification
A serif typeface described as 'serif-monoline' in its Hebrew description, drawing formal inspiration from the classic Hebrew Frankruehl typeface. Its stroke contrast is reduced toward a monoline quality, making it suitable for both display and continuous reading.
